Kids These Days

My intention was to blog 3 times a week and once a day if the spirit moved me but today I have to have a second entry. When I closed my business I promised to take care of myself. For the past two years I have given up almost every pleasure to focus on making my business work. One of the things I really love is those great Vietnamese foot rubs at my local nail place. I decided that I had time today to sit in one of those crazy massage chairs, have my feet rubbed and try to figure out what derogatory remarks those fat free nail girls were saying about me. Instead I had to listen to the disfunctional  relationship of a desperate housewife and her college daughter. The housewife was getting a garish red flower design on her nails by the only male nail artist when suddenly her cell phone rang. She answered by speaker phone and listened to her bratty college daughter tell her that she just got into a fender bender in the college parking lot. The mother calmly instructed her to stay with the car and she would be right there. She left and returned about 15 minutes later with college brat in tow. "Get your toes done" her mother instructed. "Fine" said the brat and proceeded to take off her shoes and sit in the crazy massage chair next to mine. Across from her mother she sat, brooding and complaining and treating her mother horribly. At one point the mother happily held up her nails to her and said "what do you think?" to which the daughter replied-"Hideous but perfect for you." It took all the strength I had to not back slap the little brat but her mom didn't show any reaction and therefore  I decided not to react. Instead of leaving with that blissful feeling of soft feet and relaxation I left with questions: How did that brat become a brat? How could I keep my son from becoming that brat? Why on earth would someone get that garish red nail design intentionally?
